ProVision License FAQs PDF Print E-mail

What is the difference between ProVision for Enterprise Architecture (EA) and ProVision for Business Process Analysis (BPA)?

  • The primary difference between EA and BPA is the type and number of modelers available.
  • BPA is limited to a set of process and organisation modelers, while EA has modelers available that address businesses, processes, and systems.
  • The models and data built in one edition may also be viewed and edited in the other whenever the modeler is supported.

I have placed a purchase order for a software license, maintenance and support. What do I do now?

  • Once your purchase order has been confirmed, you will need to download the ProVision installation package and request a license.
  • The license request will identify the Host ID to the distributor.
  • Once the license file is released, you will need to copy the file into the relevant directory to unlock the software.

Why are the file sizes for the install packages different?

  • Although the functionality is identical, the license determines which features are available to the user. The difference in size comes from a different set of distributed documentation specific to EA or BPA.

What is a Host ID?

  • The Host ID is a unique number produced by ProVision which allows licenses to be generated.

How do I identify the Host ID?

  • Run the program from the user’s computer.
  • From the Help menu, select About ProVision.
  • The About ProVision window will appear. Click the “License” button.
  • The ProVision Product Licensing window will appear. If a Host ID has been generated, it will be displayed in this window. Click the “License by Email” button.
  • The User Information window will appear. Click the “Continue to launch your email client program button.”
  • A new mail message will appear, with the last line containing the User License Host ID.

Is there any other way to obtain the Host ID?

  • One easy way to get your Host ID is by using “checkhost.zip”.
  • Unzip the folder onto the user’s machine, then run the checkHost.bat file by double-clicking on it.
  • This is a simple batch file that uses the other file and creates a new file called “hostidinfo.txt”.

ProVision has stopped working on my laptop. What do I do?

  • Fixed node licenses are locked to the MAC address of the Ethernet card on your laptop/desktop.
  • Some laptops, when they have a docking station or some other extra networking interface, use an alternative Ethernet card, which is not covered by the ProVision license.
  • By indicating that you use a docking station, Metastorm will allocate a license file that works around the problem of multiple Ethernet cards.

Is it possible to move servers?

  • The concurrent/floating license server has a single license file that enables all the concurrent/floating licenses.
  • It is tied to the specific machine that the server is currently installed on.
  • To move the license server, you will need to remove the floating license manager software from the current machine and request a new license for a different machine.
